elizabeth @ 2youngcrones
I am a 60 year old woman, one of the 2 Young Crones, who chooses to walk the spiritual path of Witchcraft.
I am a licensed Substance Abuse Counselor who still dreams of someday finishing my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling (only one course more to go).
I come from a background of personal recovery and experience working a 12 Step program which has allowed me to be clean for about 27 years at this point so a lot of my personal perspective is extremely pragmatic.
If it works, use it and if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.
However, my full-time job at present is grandmother and guardian to seven young people, 4 girls and 3 boys, who were my daughter’s children.
She and my oldest granddaughter were murdered at Thanksgiving, 2016 by her estranged husband and the father of all the kids so someone (guess who) had to step up and take over raising them.
Today my life is full of keeping track of a bunch of school stuff and various other activities that they are all involved with. If I ever lose my calendar, I am doomed. They are all the source of some of my greatest frustrations and greatest joys. I did not plan to be living with a bunch of teenagers again with all the hormones and rampant emotions that accompany the maturing process, but it does keep life interesting. I do struggle with making time for myself and my personal spiritual needs and practices, but it does give me a greater understanding of everyday difficulties and I have developed extreme time management skills.
Witchcraft Practice Background
As part of working a 12 step program, I worked to create a relationship with the God of my understanding. I had been part of several of the world’s mainstream religions over the years, but there always seemed to be moral and philosophical differences that did not match my own personal center. It was only through being willing to search and the chance reading of a really good mystery that I stumbled on Paganism and Wicca. I started reading everything I could find about Wicca and eventually began working with a Wiccan coven where I began to find a path that more closely matched me internally.
However after a time, a number of us began to realize that this Wiccan group had a focus on the Light energies to the exclusion of any mention or work with the Dark energies at all. At that point, we focused almost exclusively on developing an understanding of the Dark energies and did some very deep personal shadow work. Because we recognize that balance is the ultimate goal of our spiritual practice, today we are 2 Young Crones who pick and choose from various aspects of Witchcraft and have developed a practice that focuses on personal spiritual growth and establishing connections with the energies of the Universe for magick. We walk between the magickal and mundane.
What I’m Up to Nowadays
2 Young Crones recognizes that creativity is a vital characteristic of both of us personally and as a way to continue developing our Craft practice. I enjoy painting ceramics still, but my main creative focus today seems to be coming out in all sorts of writing projects. We have just completed our fist book and I am focusing on developing as many monographs and other projects for our library as possible. I am also working on a personal book of spiritually focused poetry which someday I may be ready to share with others.
